It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

OK, so not at my house yet, but how about a little red and green for the blog?

(Shamelessly stolen from Anna. I left a few out.)

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Both, depending on whether the gift is shaped to oddly to be giftwrapped.

2. Real tree or artificial? We've had an artificial tree since our second year of marriage. We bought a real one our first Christmas in southern California and it was shedding needles by the time we got it home. After that we lived in Chicago and it's pretty hard to haul a live tree up to the 23rd floor! This year we'll buy a live one and plant it in our yard after Christmas.

3. When do you put up the tree? Whenever we get around to it! Usually a few weeks before Christmas.

4. When do you take the tree down? Whenever we get around to it! Usually after New Year's.

5. Do you like eggnog? Yes, and the Amish dairy farmers at the Farmer's Market are selling both egg nog and custard. I'm in heaven.

6. Do you have a nativity scene? A small glass one that we received as a wedding gift. It sits on our piano.

7. Mail or email Christmas cards? Mail! We didn't get around to them last year because of the new squirmy person living in the house, but we're almost ready to mail them this year!

8. Favorite Christmas Movie? A Charlie Brown Christmas, of course!

9. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Sugar cookies

10. Clear lights or colored on the tree? Clear

11. Favorite Christmas song? "In the Bleak Midwinter" I sang it to Joshua last year until I was hoarse.

12. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Both. This year we'll be home for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with my dad, and then we'll travel to see the rest of my family.

13. Angel on the tree top or a star? We had an angel when I was growing up. Now we have a star.

14. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? It depends on the schedule. I think we've done it differently every year for the past few. This year we'll open presents on Christmas morning, I think.

15. Most annoying thing about this time of year? Shameless consumerism.

16. Favorite for Christmas dinner? Whatever someone else is cooking!

How about you?

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Depends...I like paper best though.

2. Real tree or artificial? Real!

3. When do you put up the tree? We try to do it before St. Nick night (Dec. 5ish) but it depends on my work schedule.

4. When do you take the tree down? Around Epiphany...about a week after Christmas day or so.

5. Do you like eggnog? Yuck! Josh loves it though.

6. Do you have a nativity scene? A peruvian set given to me by my first church appointment. Nicest thing they ever did for me!

7. Mail or email Christmas cards? Mail! Though, it usually happens after Christmas with the Advent rush of things.

8. Favorite Christmas Movie? Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer and Charlie Brown Christmas. Though Frosty is the one that sticks in my memory the most b/c it always makes me bawl. The magician is just so mean!!

9. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Thumbprint cookies with the recipes my grandma Mom Mom gave me.

10. Clear lights or colored on the tree? Clear

11. Favorite Christmas song? Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel

12. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Depends on the year. This year we will spend the Eve home (I work) and then travel on Christmas Day to Josh's familiy's home.

13. Angel on the tree top or a star? Angel when I was little, now nothing b/c Josh can't find one he likes well enough. I have returned several to the store that he rejected.

14. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Usually Christmas Eve morning since I work both the evening of the Eve and we travel on Christmas Day.

15. Most annoying thing about this time of year? Consumerism and the endless loop of crappy holiday songs everywhere you go.

16. Favorite for Christmas dinner? Sage stuffing

1. Ditto MB

2. We’ve always had a live tree. This year, without a man to help me, I wimped out and did a fake one. I’m so ashamed!

3. Usually the first week of December.

4. Usually the first week of January.

5. The very mention of it makes my stomach cringe.

6. I have several. I felt weird putting one of them out this year, since I’m not technically a Christian now and I don’t want certain people making an issue of it. But the holiday is in fact all about the nativity, so I put it out and I dare anyone to pick a bone with me…

7. Mail. No cards this year; didn’t feel like it.

8. It’s A Wonderful Life

9. Ditto MB

10. Clear

11. O Holy Night

12. Both.

13. I had both angels and stars growing up. I have a star.

14. Christmas morning only! I’m such a stickler.

15. Ditto MB

16. A big plate of mashed potatoes. :)

OK--so this is a shameless use of your blog, and I apologize. (all very nice, though). However, I have been attempting to stalk my old friend from KC, Martha, and I somehow found her blog, but cannot figure out how to contact her. But, I see you are her friend too, so maybe she will read this, or you can send this to her...Hannah DeLuca (formerly "Short", formerly, formerly "Sherwin") is trying to say "hello and etc." and can be e-mailed at hdeluca@unc.edu
